Prayer Rugs

These are handmade traditional Balochi style Afghan prayer rugs. Most will originate from Aaraath near the Afghan/Iran border. Each rug is unique and features traditional Balochi designs using strong geometric patterns and shapes. These are mainly woven by Baluchi tribal weavers in southwest of Pakistan, northeast of Iran and northwest of Afghanistan. The Blauchi tree-of-life prayer rug is the most well known of all Baluchi designs. Other designs include repeating all-overs with floral motifs or repeating all-overs. We can also obtain Barjesta style of rugs which are very similiar to the Turkish Kilim rugs. The main colours used in Baluchi rugs are red, dark blue, camel, beige and white. A common border design is a zigzag design.
